European Commission Approves €6.1 Billion for Ukraine's Drones and Patriot Missiles
The European Commission has approved a loan of €6.1 billion for Ukraine to purchase drones and missiles for Patriot air defense systems. This decision will allow Ukraine to officially acquire American PAC-3 missiles and support domestic manufacturers. The funding includes five special deviations from standard EU procurement conditions, three of which relate to Ukrainian drones and components, while two pertain to American equipment through a joint procurement mechanism coordinated by NATO. The military representative of the European Commission, Andrius Kubilius, noted that Ukraine's military advantage depends on rapid access to critically important resources. This decision completes the allocation of €28.3 billion designated for Ukraine's defense needs this year. The European Commission is also considering requests for an additional €4.7 billion on top of the already allocated €8.3 billion.
