Long-term Bitcoin Investors Remain Profitable Despite Price Decline
Investors who hold their Bitcoin for more than 155 days continue to remain profitable on average during recent price declines. This contrasts with previous major declines since 2015, where this group was typically at a loss. According to research firm Glassnode, the current average value of their Bitcoin is higher than the estimated purchase price. The LTH-MVRV metric indicates that this group is on average profitable, as the value remains above 1. During earlier declines in 2015, 2018, and 2022, this value fell below 1, indicating that long-term holders were generally at a loss. Despite the recent drop from a record price of $126,000, this group remains profitable. It is important to note that this average does not mean that every investor is making a profit; individuals who bought Bitcoin at high prices may still incur losses. Profit only becomes definitive once the coins are sold, and with a new price decline, this profit may diminish again.
