Trump's $5,000 Promise to Americans and Its Impact on Bitcoin

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has promised to pay every adult American $5,000 if the Republicans win the midterm elections in November 2026. This plan could inject new liquidity into the economy and increase demand for risky assets like Bitcoin. However, the cost of this plan is estimated to be around $1.2 trillion for 240 to 250 million eligible Americans, and the likelihood of a decisive Republican victory is low. Research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland shows that pandemic-era financial payments only increased Bitcoin purchases by 3.8% and its price by 0.7%. Anthony Pompliano, a cryptocurrency investor, believes that cash payments could drive up the price of Bitcoin and other assets. However, market forecasts indicate that the chance of this plan being realized is only 7%, and it is largely viewed as an electoral publicity stunt. There are also serious uncertainties regarding the funding of this $1.2 trillion project.
