Diesel Prices in the U.S. Exceed $6 per Gallon
The price of diesel fuel in the United States has surpassed $6 per gallon ($1.59 per liter) for the first time in history, which could lead to a new wave of inflation due to rising logistics and agricultural equipment costs. Diesel prices have increased by nearly 60% due to supply constraints caused by the conflict in the Middle East and the export ban from Russia. Brent crude futures reached $107.63 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate hit $102.48 per barrel. Distillate stocks in the U.S. are 13% below the five-year average, totaling 106.3 million barrels. The rise in diesel prices increases costs for trucks, trains, and ships. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan noted that record diesel prices will impact every shipment and trigger inflation in the supply chain. Oasis Energy's Director of Energy, Alex Ryan, reported that diesel prices have more than doubled in five months, already affecting cash flows. Hylio CEO Arthur Erikson confirmed that farmers are facing rising production costs amid falling prices for agricultural crops. The rising fuel costs create additional challenges for the Trump administration ahead of the midterm elections, and White House representatives express intentions to expand U.S. refining capacity.
