Crypto Companies Contribute $210 Million to Trump-aligned Committees Amid Regulatory Scrutiny
A report by Public Citizen links corporations and individuals benefiting from cancelled federal enforcement actions to approximately 210.5 million dollars in donations to Trump-aligned political committees. Major cryptocurrency firms, including Crypto.com and Gemini, are among the contributors. The report details that Crypto.com contributed 35 million dollars to MAGA Inc. and 2 million dollars to another Trump-aligned committee. Public Citizen highlights the significance of political spending, especially as these companies benefit from changes in enforcement by government agencies. However, the report clarifies that political contributions do not imply illegal arrangements or that donors purchased specific regulatory decisions. The cryptocurrency industry is increasingly active in Washington, advocating for clearer legislation and a stable business environment. Previous reports have noted substantial political contributions from the crypto sector aimed at influencing regulations on exchanges, stablecoins, and token issuers. Supporters argue that past regulations created uncertainty, while critics contend that large donors may gain undue access to policymakers. Public Citizen's findings contribute to this ongoing debate without establishing a direct link between donations and corruption.
