Trump Administration's Promotion of 'SI' Terminology May Conceal Insider Trading
On September 30, crypto researcher Adam Cochran accused the Trump administration on X of promoting the new artificial intelligence term "SI," which may have created a market for speculation on the .si domain name. He further claimed that someone may have hoarded relevant domain names before policy signals were clear, profiting from the subsequent brand demand; however, the direct connection between the domain holders and the Trump family, government officials, or their associates has not yet been independently verified.
The term SI stands for "Super Intelligence," which the Trump administration has recently promoted in discussions about artificial intelligence. On September 19, Trump initiated a discussion on Truth Social, testing alternative terms to replace AI; by around September 21, he began to explicitly use the term "SI (Super Intelligence)." On September 22, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump announced that future U.S. government documents would adopt the term "Super Intelligence"; on September 29, after meeting with AI executives at the White House, Trump signed an executive order further integrating "Super Intelligence / SI" into the formal policy framework of the federal government.
The issue is that .si is also the country code top-level domain for Slovenia. Once the policy terminology shifts from AI to SI, the previously obscure .si domain may become a digital asset fiercely contested by tech companies, policy institutions, and brand marketers.
Cochran provided data to support his claim that the registration volume of .si domains has significantly increased this year: from 2023 to 2025, there has been an average of about 55 new registrations per day, with a single-day registration volume exceeding 400 in late June and over 7,000 new registrations in July. He stated that he discovered approximately 12,000 .si domain names related to AI, MAGA, or U.S. politics, which were newly registered or transferred before policy signals were clear, with some later listed for millions of dollars; for example, the listing price for build.si reached $14 million.
According to Cochran's inference, if companies adopt the "SI" brand to align with the latest narrative from Washington, they may need to purchase .si domains, providing early registrants with an exit opportunity. However, this inference still has a critical gap: major registrars take privacy protection measures on Whois information, making it impossible to confirm the actual beneficiaries of the relevant domains from publicly available data; high listing prices do not equate to completed transactions. At present, this is more akin to a public questioning surrounding policy naming, domain squatting, and potential conflicts of interest, rather than a confirmed incident of interest transfer.
