Revolut obtains banking license in Colombia
Revolut announced on September 15, 2026, that it received its operating license from the Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC), allowing it to operate as a regulated banking entity in the country. The company plans to launch a range of financial products in Colombia and asserts that meeting regulatory capital requirements demonstrates its financial strength and long-term commitment. Additionally, the Fogafín deposit insurance will protect users under the local regulatory framework. Revolut is set to begin operations in Colombia in 2027. This permission is part of its expansion strategy, which includes licenses in France, Australia, and the United Kingdom in 2026, as well as a conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a national banking license. The announcement comes amid a security incident related to the exposure of personal and financial data of customers, originating from a data request from a legitimate government domain that surpassed standard verification mechanisms.
