Publicly Listed Bitcoin Companies Acquire 5,900 Bitcoin and Face Losses
Publicly listed bitcoin companies have added approximately 5,900 bitcoin to their reserves over the past three months, according to research firm Glassnode. The average purchase price is around $80,500, about 6 percent above the current market price. This purchasing pace is significantly lower than in July 2025, when these companies bought 89,000 bitcoin in a single month. The current amount represents less than 7 percent of those previous purchases. These companies were a major source of demand last year, but the decrease in purchases means there is less support for the bitcoin price. Strategy, the company with the largest bitcoin reserve, purchased 4,603 bitcoin at the end of August, marking its first purchase in two months. Glassnode points out that the average purchase price of $80,500 is a critical level; as long as bitcoin remains below this, the combined position of the companies is in the red on paper. This may discourage companies from maintaining their positions, further weakening support for the market.
