OpenAI Supports Bipartisan AI Safety Regulation Proposal in the House of Representatives
OpenAI supports a bipartisan proposal in the U.S. House of Representatives that calls for leading artificial intelligence companies to bring in external evaluators to ensure the safety of their models. Chris Lattner, OpenAI's head of global affairs, stated that the company supports a key provision in the FRONTIER Act. The bill, introduced by House Republican Jay Obernolte and Democratic Representative Lori Trahan, aims to establish the first federal-level AI safety framework in the United States. The legislation stipulates that top AI labs allow independent verification organizations (IVOs) to enter their facilities to ensure the safe development of models. Lattner met with the bill's sponsors on Capitol Hill to discuss views on IVOs and expressed support for this arrangement.
