New Tariffs by Trump Benefit Argentine Exports
The American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina (AmCham) highlighted the preferential treatment for Argentina in Donald Trump's new tariff scheme. Starting today, Argentina will maintain a 10% surcharge, the lowest in the new scheme, which strengthens trade relations and expands opportunities for local exports. The Commercial Reciprocity Agreement (ARTI) will be implemented, featuring 1,675 tariff positions with zero tariffs and an additional 537 benefiting after review by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). Trump established new surcharges ranging from 10% to 12.5% for 60 trading partners, affecting nearly all imports. The 10% tariff will be applied to countries that impose import bans on forced labor, including Argentina. Additionally, Argentina will have exemptions for certain products, encouraging compliance with commitments regarding bans on forced labor.
