HSBC's Hong Kong Dollar Stablecoin RedCoin Reaches 50,000 Users in One Week
HSBC's Hong Kong dollar stablecoin RedCoin has reached 50,000 users since its launch in October, with a goal of reaching millions of users. Georges Elhedery, CEO of HSBC Group, stated at the Hong Kong FinTech Week that the rapid growth in users is attributed to the regulatory environment provided by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. RedCoin is currently available to over 3.3 million users of HSBC's PayMe app, with plans to open it to all HSBC and Hang Seng Bank customers in the future, although no specific timeline has been provided. HSBC also announced that RedCoin's merchant payment and wallet top-up features are now live, and plans to offer RedCoin through HSBC's Hong Kong mobile banking app, supporting customers in subscribing to money market funds and other tokenized asset products.
