Egypt's NoorNation Raises $1.05 Million in Seed Funding Round with Linah Farms Participation
- Egyptian startup NoorNation, specializing in climate technology, has closed a seed funding round of $1.05 million, with participation from Linah Farms, along with the Catalyst Fund, which focuses on investing in climate technology, and Saudi Arabia's KBW Ventures.
- Founded in 2021 by Raji Ramadan and Mohamed Khaled, NoorNation is developing decentralized infrastructure for clean energy and water, targeting agricultural companies and communities lacking basic services. Its main product, LifeBox, is a system that provides electricity and water using solar energy for facilities and areas not connected to traditional grids.
- The investment from Linah Farms follows their collaboration with NoorNation on several projects, including solar-powered irrigation systems in the group's farms, renewable energy solutions in its agricultural school, and a solar power station at the Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm El Sheikh.
- The funding comes as NoorNation develops solar-powered irrigation solutions based on a pay-per-use model, targeting Egyptian farmers to reduce reliance on diesel-powered water pumps.
Press Release:
Egyptian startup NoorNation, specializing in climate technology, has closed a seed funding round of $1.05 million, bringing Linah Farms into its shareholder base after adopting NoorNation's renewable energy solutions in several of its operations. The round also saw participation from the Catalyst Fund, which specializes in investing in climate technology, and Saudi Arabia's KBW Ventures.
This investment marks a shift in the relationship between the two companies, as Linah Farms transitioned from being a commercial client of NoorNation to an investor, following their collaboration on projects that included solar-powered agricultural irrigation systems, an agricultural school, and a hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.
NoorNation was founded in 2021 by Raji Ramadan and Mohamed Khaled, and is working on developing decentralized infrastructure for clean energy and water, targeting agricultural companies, rural communities, and users in areas not connected to traditional utility networks in Egypt and Sub-Saharan Africa.
LifeBox is the company's main product, an integrated and independent solar-powered system designed to provide electricity and water for irrigation, desalination, and other uses in areas lacking traditional infrastructure.
The company previously received investment from KBW Ventures, the investment firm founded by Saudi Prince Khalid bin Walid, which invested in NoorNation in 2024 for an undisclosed amount.
From Client to Investor
NoorNation and Linah Farms collaborated on several renewable energy projects, including solar-powered irrigation systems in the group's farms in the Bahariya Oasis in Egypt, and a system combining solar energy and batteries for electricity storage at Linah Farms' agricultural school, along with a solar power station at the Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm El Sheikh.
According to Raji Ramadan, co-founder of NoorNation, the solar irrigation system in Linah Farms' Bahariya Oasis farms has achieved savings exceeding 3 million Egyptian pounds in diesel costs, while the solar power station at the Sultan Gardens Resort has helped reduce electricity costs by more than 2.2 million Egyptian pounds.
The two companies also announced an agreement to implement five additional solar power stations, with a total capacity of approximately 1.13 megawatts peak, in the Bahariya Oasis and West Minya regions. The projects include solar-powered irrigation systems and a hybrid power generation station.
According to NoorNation, this agreement raises the total capacity of projects already implemented or underway for Linah Farms to approximately 1.71 megawatts peak.
Expanding Solar Irrigation Services
The funding comes as NoorNation develops a solar irrigation model based on pay-per-use, targeting farmers who still rely on diesel-powered water pumps.
Linah Farms is also expected to contribute to financing this model, expanding the partnership between the two companies beyond existing energy projects.
This model aims to facilitate access for agricultural companies and projects to solar irrigation solutions while reducing their exposure to fuel cost fluctuations.
The new investment in NoorNation comes amid growing interest in decentralized clean energy solutions in the Egyptian agricultural sector, where access to affordable energy and water remains a challenge for farms located outside traditional infrastructure networks.
