DekaBank Launches Cryptocurrency Service in German Savings Banks
DekaBank launched the "Krypto" service on October 19, 2026, for customers of German savings banks, allowing the trading of digital assets through the Sparkasse app. The platform starts operations with five cryptocurrencies: bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), solana (SOL), XRP, and polygon (POL). Transactions will incur a cost of €0.99 per executed order, while custody will be free. The launch will be gradual over the coming months. This initiative aims to provide investors with a regulated alternative for trading, backed by the MiCA law, which establishes investor protection rules in the European Union. This rollout coincides with a regulatory debate in Germany regarding changes to the tax treatment of cryptocurrencies starting December 31, 2026, with a draft from the Ministry of Finance proposing to eliminate the tax exemption for sales after more than one year of holding.
