On October 5, Douyin user Li Yi posted a video on social media claiming that he lost 177,473 USDT due to downloading a fake wallet from the official Huawei Mall, which exposed his mnemonic phrase. The hacker converted the permissions of his wallet address to multi-signature and then conducted a secondary scam under the guise of "unlocking for a fee." After the victim transferred the money, all the USDT in the address was transferred away. Li Yi released a video exposing the app's violations, leading to a sharp decline in its downloads on the official mall. The hacker reported his video multiple times, forcing it to be taken down, and attempted to privately reach a "conditional video deletion" agreement. The victim's investigation found that the scam app had five servers located in Hong Kong, which paid to have the app listed on the Huawei Mall and to boost its ranking, allowing a large number of users to download the scam app first. Due to relevant bans in mainland China, wallet apps cannot be properly launched in the mall, resulting in most apps available in the mall being fake scam apps.
