UN Report Indicates Rising Risk of Large-Scale War Among Global Concerns
The United Nations' "Global Risk Report 2026" reveals that the risk of large-scale war has risen 16 places among 28 global risks, making it the risk with the largest increase. 36% of respondents believe that a large-scale war could occur within a year, while 76% expect it to happen within seven years. Risks such as global financial crises, supply chain collapses, and cybersecurity have also seen an increase in their rankings. In contrast, environmental risks such as biodiversity degradation, widespread pollution, and depletion of natural resources have dropped in ranking, but inaction on climate change, natural disasters, and shortages of natural resources are still viewed as significant challenges. The report is based on a survey of approximately 1,300 respondents from governments, businesses, civil society, and the UN system.
