U.S. President Trump hopes to nominate FIFA President Gianni Infantino as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations. Infantino has developed a close relationship with Trump due to this year's World Cup and invited him to participate in the U.S.-Canada-Mexico World Cup. Last year, Infantino awarded Trump the inaugural FIFA "Peace Award." Sources say Trump believes Infantino is highly respected globally and possesses a unique ability to unite people. During the 2026 World Cup, Trump controversially intervened by calling Infantino regarding a red card penalty issue involving the U.S. team.
