TON mainnet validators have conducted node updates and network configuration voting procedures to introduce collators. This is a technological transition aimed at separating the validator structure to enhance network throughput. Tonstatus has announced the schedule for the 2026.08 update, which includes a node software upgrade on August 17 at 11 PM KST, a network configuration change vote on August 18 at 9:30 PM, and the mytonctrl update and activation of collators on August 20 at 9 PM. The target version for the validator update is node commit 3d478cb. Following this, additional work will be guided to upgrade mytonctrl to 64c2aa9 v2.18.0, which is described as the procedure to complete the activation of the mainnet collators. Collators separate block generation and validation to improve transaction processing speed and reduce node burden, with validators transitioning to the role of confirming blocks. This vote includes configuration changes for adjusting collator functionalities, with Tonstatus stating that performance will be adjusted with Config 29 and governance contracts will be activated with Config 31 and 46. Validators and node operators must not miss the commit and voting procedures, and Toncore explained that after the 2026.07 distribution, block production rates and network metrics have returned to normal levels. This work is foundational for gradually increasing the network threshold, and Toncore noted that the collator architecture was introduced a year ago.
