Stripe co-founder predicts that stablecoins will drive the emergence of a large number of AI Agent businesses
According to The Block, Stripe co-founder and president John Collison predicts that a large number of AI Agent-driven business activities will emerge in the coming years, and believes that stablecoins and high-throughput blockchains will be the main drivers.
In a recent podcast, Collison stated that autonomous software agents will no longer be limited to experiments and are expected to increasingly handle real economic activities, including payments and capital allocation. He noted, "We will see a lot of Agent commerce," while emphasizing that crypto-native infrastructure is structurally very well-suited to support this trend.
Earlier this year, Stripe integrated the x402 standard, enabling AI agents to transact in USDC via Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, Base, facilitating machine-to-machine commerce without human checkout processes.
