Starknet Plans to Become a Quantum-Resistant Layer 1
Starknet could become, as early as 2027, the first network fully resistant to quantum computer attacks by breaking away from Ethereum. Eli Ben-Sasson, head of StarkWare, emphasizes that threats related to quantum computing and artificial intelligence could materialize faster than expected. Currently, Starknet operates as a layer 2, processing transactions on its own network before submitting proofs to Ethereum. By becoming a layer 1, Starknet could ensure its own security without relying on Ethereum for data validation. Ben-Sasson urges blockchains to adopt quantum-resistant cryptography and develop their "crypto-agility." StarkWare has already presented a three-step plan to enhance network security, adapt smart contracts, and resolve dependencies on Ethereum. The transition to layer 1 could accelerate this process. Currently, the Starknet token (STRK) trades at around $0.060, up nearly 15% in 24 hours, with a gain of 37.51% over a week and 91.66% over 30 days, although it remains 98.7% below its all-time high of $4.41.
