South Korea lawmakers review voting rights for crypto exchange owners
South Korea’s National Assembly Research Service stated that limits on voting rights for major shareholders in cryptocurrency exchanges may impact constitutional property rights and corporate freedom. The service suggested that these restrictions should be evaluated by balancing the public interest derived from regulation against the private interests being limited. This assessment was included in materials regarding voting-right restrictions for major shareholders of crypto exchanges sent to Democratic Party lawmaker Park Min-kyu. The service also referenced major jurisdictions such as the EU and Singapore, which utilize fitness reviews for major shareholders and ex post supervision instead of uniform equity caps.
