Ryazan Oil Refinery Stops Operations After Drone Attack
The Ryazan Oil Refinery ceased operations on September 6 following an attack by Ukrainian drones. This marks the third shutdown of the refinery in a year. As a result of the attack, two main units—CDU-4 and CDU-6—were damaged, leading to a fire. The CDU-3 unit has been under maintenance since mid-May. Repairs to the damaged installations may take several weeks. CDU-6 has a capacity of 8 million tons of oil per year, accounting for nearly half of the refinery's capacity, while CDU-4 processes 4 million tons annually. Previously, on May 15, the refinery also faced a drone attack, after which operations were suspended until mid-July. Another attack occurred on July 29, leading to a two to three-week suspension of operations. In 2024, the Ryazan Oil Refinery processed 13.1 million tons of crude oil, which is about 4.9% of the total processing volume in Russia. The refinery is located approximately 200 km southeast of Moscow and is one of the main fuel suppliers to the capital.
