Raised US$28 million and now seeking to expand in Argentina and other Latin American countries
The company Mural - a company that provides financial infrastructure, licenses, and control mechanisms for other companies to operate - announced today the closing of a Series A funding round for US$15 million. According to the firm, the new funds will be used to strengthen its global expansion and to develop the necessary infrastructure to scale finance based on artificial intelligence agents. The round they just closed was led by Tether - a company known for being the issuer of USDT, the most widely used stablecoin in the world - although it also included participation from North Island Ventures and other existing investors, including Wences Casares, a well-known Argentine entrepreneur in the fintech sector and founder of Patagon and Xapo Bank. With this investment, the total funding received by the company rises to US$28 million. "As agents begin to move money, that connection with banks, payment networks, and compliance systems on which the world still operates becomes fundamental. Mural is already making that large-scale integration possible," said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether. Indeed, the financial industry is joining the bet on AI agents, assistants that no longer just answer questions or generate images as originally allowed by ChatGPT when it was launched in 2022, but also have the ability to perform tasks on our behalf: from sending an email to making a purchase or rescheduling an appointment. With the new funding, the company seeks to expand its presence in Argentina, strengthen its operations in Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, and has plans to enter other countries in Latin America. "We are looking for a country manager in Argentina to expand our efforts there. We have worked with local banks, so we already have a network of partners in that sector. We are also growing in sales and working with more companies that want to connect with the United States," said Sinclair Toffa, CEO and co-founder of Mural, to LA NACION. Toffa explained that Argentina "is a pioneering market in the use of stablecoins and a benchmark in financial innovation, driven by the need of individuals and companies to operate in dollars through digital tools. And the demand continues to grow." In this context, he detailed that Mural seeks to support fintechs and platforms operating in the country, with infrastructure to manage dollars, stablecoins, and pesos, make local collections and payments, and comply with regulatory requirements. "Moreover, Argentina is a key market for developing and perfecting its products, with infrastructure that allows companies to expand to Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico as well," added the executive.
What does Mural do?
Many global companies must integrate financial tools, banking partners, and compliance service providers to offer financial products to their clients. Mural operates as a system that manages accounts, payments, identity, and compliance that underpins financial products designed for both individuals and AI agents authorized to act on their behalf. In other words, the platform integrates licenses, banking relationships, and local payment systems and blockchain that companies need to operate in different markets. "We are a fintech company that enables and facilitates other companies to build products. We provide that infrastructure on which other applications then rely," summarized Toffa. Among its clients are Deel, Opera, and Axexo, which turn to them to develop financial products, such as payroll management solutions and remittance sending. These tools allow their end users to hold dollars, stablecoins, and local currency in a single account. Since the launch of its API in 2025, it has processed US$2.1 billion in payment volume for end users in 128 countries. The accumulated volume so far in 2026 is almost six times higher than that recorded throughout 2025. Regarding its presence in Argentina, it already operates in the country to serve fintech companies, digital platforms, and global companies that develop financial products for individuals and for agents authorized to act on their behalf. "Argentina has demonstrated the importance of access to dollars for individuals and companies. Digital solutions in dollars are becoming part of the way people manage their money, and the fintechs serving these clients should not have to spend years developing infrastructure and navigating regulatory requirements before they can offer them. Mural takes care of that layer of infrastructure so they can launch dollar accounts in much less time.",summary:
