Mastercard Sponsors XRP Ledger Hackathon Event

Mastercard will participate as a sponsor in the XRP Ledger hackathon event to be held in New York on October 24-25. The event will bring developers together to create projects on the XRP Ledger ahead of Ripple's Swell conference. The hackathon will focus on four areas: protocol innovations, autonomous finance applications, lending, and borrowing. Teams with working projects are encouraged to add XRPL functionalities. Mastercard's relationship with Ripple has become more visible over the past year. Ripple announced a collaboration with Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini around the RLUSD stablecoin in November 2024. This development follows Gemini's launch of the XRP version of the Mastercard credit card last August. Additionally, BlackRock's spot Ethereum ETF product, ETHA, recorded a net inflow of $1.02 billion between August 17-27, ranking first among U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs during this period. In Japan, Nomura-backed Laser Digital Japan has received operational permission as a cryptocurrency exchange service provider under the Payment Services Act.
