Kalshi Sees 542 Million Contracts in 15-Minute Gold Market, Fees Estimated at 5 Million USD
The prediction market platform Kalshi recorded 542 million contracts traded in its 15-minute gold market in September, with estimated fees around 5 million USD, surpassing the Ethereum market's 318 million contracts and 2.6 million USD in fees. The Bitcoin market is estimated to have generated 60.4 million USD in fees during the same period. This gold contract was launched in August, allowing traders to bet on whether gold will rise or fall within 15 minutes. Kalshi reported that its commodity trading volume reached 400 million USD within seven months of launch, more than four times the trading volume of the crypto market during the same period. In the seven days leading up to October 5, fees from the 15-minute cryptocurrency, commodity, and financial markets totaled 20.4 million USD, accounting for 80% of the platform's non-sports fees; these markets contributed 13% of the trading volume and 20% of the fees.
