Hyperliquid's legendary trader takes over Meme coin, self-funds "Build" community driving WhiteWhale market cap over $1B
BlockBeats News, January 8th, according to GMGN monitoring, the Solana-based Meme coin WhiteWhale has a market capitalization exceeding 110 million U.S. dollars, hitting a new all-time high, currently trading at around $0.11. In the past 30 days, it has surged by approximately 2700%. Calculated since December last year, the increase has exceeded a hundredfold. Currently, the number of holding addresses has exceeded 12,000, with a 24-hour trading volume of 4.8 million U.S. dollars, ranking fourth on the trading leaderboard.
The token was initially created on October 13, 2025, on pump.fun, with the community fans launching it using the avatar of the well-known trader The White Whale (X: TheWhiteWhaleV2). Initially, its market value was only about $100,000, and it then traded sideways for a long time, once on the brink of collapse.
On December 7, 2025, due to concerns that the token might be misused to damage his personal reputation, The White Whale himself announced taking over the project. He pledged to give back all related revenue to the community, making himself "earn nothing from it." He bought 10,000 tokens and planned to invest $140,000 of his own funds gradually to provide liquidity to enhance trading depth and rug resistance. The project gradually developed a community-driven narrative of "anti-KOL vampire, anti-rug" autonomy. Subsequently, on December 20th, the project team announced the launch of a " $100,000 Community Giveback" incentive plan to drive the continuous price increase of the token.
According to HyperInsight monitoring, The White Whale was previously a legendary trader on Hyperliquid, with 87,000 followers on X. In July 2025, The White Whale aggressively went long on ETH and SOL, making a profit of nearly $30 million in a single week, topping the Hyperliquid earnings chart for the first time. During August and September, his annualized earnings once approached $100 million. On October 11th, he experienced the largest single-day drawdown, losing $62 million. Despite the heavy losses, he still maintained an overall profit for the year. On November 14, 2025, The White Whale announced his permanent withdrawal from Hyperliquid trading and shifted his support to teams dedicated to improving the underlying design.
