Google quantum computing advance not capable of breaking Bitcoin keys
Lark Davis stated that Google's latest quantum computing research does not enable the technology to break Bitcoin's cryptographic keys. In a post on X, he highlighted the implications for the security of regular bank accounts if quantum computers could crack BTC keys. On Oct. 15, Google announced in a blog post that it had implemented 'magic state cultivation' on its Willow quantum processor, a method for efficiently generating the 'magic states' necessary for universal quantum computation. Google noted that generating magic states can use up to 95% of a quantum computer's total resources and that this new technology could reduce the scale of quantum computers required for practical computation. However, Google emphasized that larger-scale validation is needed for commercialization and that numerous technical challenges remain.
