You can’t sit with us. On Canton Network, this cult line does not apply to Franklin Templeton. The asset manager, with over $1.5 trillion under management, has just obtained the status of "Super Validator" on this institutional blockchain already adopted by Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, and HSBC. A position that cannot be bought. It is obtained through a public governance proposal (CIP) that must be approved by a supermajority of existing Super Validators. Key points of this article: * Franklin Templeton has achieved the prestigious status of "Super Validator" on the institutional blockchain network Canton Network. * This status grants Franklin Templeton a crucial role in the governance and security of the network, reinforcing its position in the world of decentralized finance. A status that is not requested, but earned. On Canton, not all validators are equal. A Super Validator combines the classic validation functions with the operation of a "Synchronizer" node, the technical piece that coordinates transactions between the different domains of the network. Each institution operates its own, with its own ledger and access rules. This role gives Franklin Templeton a real weight in governance, security, and daily operations of the network, far beyond mere passive participation. The network does not lack ambition to display. According to figures provided by the Canton Foundation, it counts: * over 600 active validators, processing about 15 million monthly transactions * daily volumes of around $280 billion in delivered repo operations. * $6 trillion in tokenized assets on the network according to the Canton Foundation. > "Financial institutions should not just use blockchains. They should contribute to their operation. Traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) are converging." > > Canton Network is one of the players accelerating this convergence through its blockchain, specifically designed for institutional finance. We are therefore reinforcing our commitment to leveraging blockchain infrastructure by becoming a Super Validator on Canton." > > At Franklin Templeton, our priority has always been to make tokenized assets truly useful to institutions, placing security and compliance at the heart of our concerns. As a Super Validator, we contribute to the essential infrastructure that secures transactions today and lays the groundwork for the transfer of institutional capital on the blockchain in the years to come." Franklin Templeton is not the first major institution to achieve this status. Visa had already paved the way in March, becoming the first payment company to join the club of Super Validators, followed by the Singaporean broker QCP Group. In fact, each new admission further strengthens the institutional credibility of the network. However, it also concentrates governance power in the hands of a limited number of players, all from traditional finance. A dynamic that raises questions about the true decentralization of a network that aims to be a shared infrastructure rather than the exclusive domain of a few giants. Franklin Templeton did not wait for Canton to tokenize. Its American money market fund FOBXX, marketed under the name BENJI, is already operating on Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon, Stellar, Aptos, and Solana, a multi-chain strategy embraced for years. Joining Canton as a Super Validator, however, changes the nature of the commitment. Indeed, it is no longer just about distributing a product on one chain among others, but about directly participating in the governance of the infrastructure itself. The movement joins a broader competition among four institutional blockchains vying for, according to some estimates, up to $300 trillion in traditional assets that could one day be tokenized. The SEC also granted a three-year no-action letter to this pilot in December 2025, a rare regulatory green light that partly explains why giants like Franklin Templeton are also engaging so directly. Between Canton, RWA tokenization on Ethereum and Solana, and competing initiatives from JPMorgan, traditional money is no longer choosing a single chain: it is cautiously spreading across multiple ones at once. For a sector that was still seen, five years ago, as a niche curiosity reserved for crypto enthusiasts, the shift is spectacular. The same names that have prudently managed the savings of Western households for decades are now, line of code after line of code, piloting the infrastructure that may one day replace traditional financial ledgers.
