Deutsche Bank Predicts More Aggressive Debt Management Measures by U.S. Treasury
Deutsche Bank strategists expect that the U.S. Treasury will adopt a more proactive approach to debt management, especially after announcing a plan to double the scale of long-term Treasury bond repurchases. The Treasury is anticipated to advance these operations through gradual adjustments rather than significant policy changes, and will increase communication beyond quarterly refinancing arrangements, actively releasing policy signals as a tool. The strategists noted that the Treasury may utilize the flexibility retained in last week's announcement to raise the scale of long-term bond repurchases to at least $4 billion. Long-term bond repurchase operations typically attract bids of up to $20 billion, providing room for the Treasury to expand its operations recently. Additionally, when announcing the updated bond repurchase schedule, the Treasury may not specify the exact scale of long-term bond repurchases to maintain operational flexibility.
