Data: U.S. Household Stock Ownership as a Percentage of Net Worth Exceeds Real Estate, Marking the Third Time in the Past 65 Years

BlockBeats News, December 22nd, KobeissiLetter released data, the US stock market's current rally is being hailed as historic, with American households now holding a higher proportion of their net worth in stocks than in real estate, marking the third time in the past 65 years this has occurred. Meanwhile, corporate equities and mutual funds as a share of household net worth rose to about 31% in the second quarter of 2025, hitting a new high. Since 2008, this ratio has more than doubled. In contrast, the peak during the 2000 dot-com bubble was around 25%.
At the same time, the proportion of US household real estate assets to total net worth fell below 30% in the second quarter, marking the first time since 2021 and significantly lower than the peak of 38% reached before the bursting of the 2006 real estate bubble.
