Cursor Launches Code Hosting Platform Origin, Shopify CEO Open Sources Underlying Architecture
Cursor has launched its code hosting platform, Origin, with Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke open-sourcing its underlying Git architecture, named walgit, which replicates Cursor's self-developed Continuity. Tobi stated that due to issues with Shopify's internal Git system, he completed the project over a weekend after reading Cursor's technical article. The main change in Continuity is that the final data of the repository is stored in S3 cloud object storage, with the local Git server serving only as a cache. Each push operation first writes to the WAL log, then updates the status after confirmation via CAS, allowing for server replacement without the need to maintain a fixed primary node. Walgit, as a Rust program, connects to S3, GCS, and other object storage systems, requiring no additional database, and supports bundle-uri, Git LFS, Web UI, API, OIDC login, and webhooks. However, walgit primarily replicates Origin's Git storage, and the PR, Issues, and complete CI collaboration layers have not yet been implemented.
