Consulting Firms Bring Junior Employees Back to Offices Due to AI Development
Large consulting firms in the UK are re-evaluating their approach to remote work, considering the return of junior employees to offices. The reason is the development of artificial intelligence, which increases the importance of communication and leadership skills that are harder to develop remotely. Leaders at EY, KPMG, and other firms believe that offline interaction will help young consultants gain practical experience more quickly. Sayeh Ganbari from EY noted that the balance between work flexibility and offline interaction needs to be reassessed as AI increasingly takes on routine tasks. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the consulting industry shifted to a hybrid model, but some companies consider personal interaction to be more important. KPMG is experimenting with new offline training formats to develop soft and technical skills. Approaches to office work vary: Deloitte allows teams to determine their own frequency of office work, EY and PwC use hybrid models, KPMG tests new training formats, and Azets encourages junior employees to spend up to four days a week in the office.
