Canadian Public's Resistance to American Goods Grows, 52% Won't Buy American Cars
After the breakdown of trade negotiations between Canada and the United States, negative sentiments towards the U.S. have intensified among Canadians, reigniting calls to boycott American products. The U.S. has imposed a 50% tariff on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, and Canada announced it would impose equivalent retaliatory tariffs starting September 8. Surveys indicate that 52% of Canadians are unlikely to purchase American cars, 60% will not buy American alcohol, and over 70% will avoid American eggs and dairy products.
