Bitwise CIO says Clarity Act failure may improve crypto regulation
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan stated that the crypto market rose following the failure of the Clarity Act, indicating expectations for a more favorable regulatory environment in the near term. He noted that some compromises in the bill may have been less beneficial to certain sectors of the crypto industry compared to actions taken by federal regulators. Hougan highlighted stablecoins as a significant example, mentioning that discussions during the Clarity Act negotiations aimed to address regulatory gaps concerning compensation, as banks expressed concerns over increasing deposit competition. The bill's failure could benefit platforms like Coinbase that utilize stablecoin rewards to attract customers. He emphasized that the Clarity Act sought to establish a broader federal market structure for digital assets, and if it had passed, it might have reduced some regulatory barriers for new entrants while imposing new burdens on existing operators.
