Bitbox Integrates Lightning with Spark in Hardware Wallet
Bitbox, a brand of Shift Crypto, announced the integration of Lightning into its native hardware wallet application on September 15. The choice of Spark over Ark is due to its ability to isolate the hot wallet from cold savings using BIP85. The Lightning functionality is found within the application, not in the device's firmware. The hot wallet is derived as a child key from the device's private key, with a one-way derivation that prevents the reconstruction of the parent key. Spark, as a state chain, transfers ownership and utilizes Taproot, Frost, and TapLeaves to move fractions. Although it requires the signature of the Lightspark operator for internal transfers, it is not necessary for the output. The unilateral output of Spark is not officially implemented, keeping Bitbox in beta. Additionally, Bitbox audits its code with AI models per commit and has seen a fivefold increase in bug bounty reports recently.
