Anthropic will identify negative sentiment towards artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers as a risk factor in its upcoming IPO prospectus. The document is expected within weeks following a confidential filing in June and preliminary meetings with bankers and investors in San Francisco. Companies disclose risk factors to inform investors and mitigate legal risks. Anthropic will address public opposition to new data center projects. CFO Krishna Rao is facing inquiries about competition and margin pressures from open-source models, as well as concerns about potential slowdowns in data center construction, which directly impacts revenue. Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate exceeded 65000 million dollars in July, approximately 25000 million dollars above OpenAI's. The company's valuation in private markets is nearly 1 trillion dollars, with expectations for a public float around 2 trillion dollars. Polling indicates growing opposition to AI data centers, with a Gallup survey showing 70% of Americans against local projects, and a Heatmap Pro poll revealing 75% opposition, up from 42% a year prior. Additionally, Pew Research found that 71% of adults anticipate AI will reduce US jobs in the next two decades. In response, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has signed an executive order for strict data center standards, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul has paused permits for large new data centers.
