Alès: Couple Tied Up During Intrusion, Link to Cryptocurrencies Mentioned

By: journalducoin.com|2026/09/01 16:45:00

On Saturday morning, armed individuals forced their way into an apartment in Alès, tying up a couple and threatening them for several hours, with a child present in the home. The victims' screams alerted the neighbors, who contacted the police. The assailants fled upon the arrival of law enforcement and are still being sought. This intrusion is part of a growing trend in France, where 77 cases of kidnappings and extortions related to cryptocurrencies have been reported since January, accounting for 70% of global cases. The couple has no criminal history and does not appear to be linked to drug trafficking. The criminals are increasingly targeting pre-identified profiles, sometimes mistakenly, using stolen data. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of this kidnapping, but there is no confirmation that the couple held any digital assets.
