17 Countries Support the Kyoto Vision to Expand the Use of AI and Computing in Research

On October 4, 17 countries, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Germany, jointly supported the "Kyoto Vision for the Scientific Golden Age" at the 23rd Annual Forum on Science, Technology, and Society held in Kyoto. The declaration calls for expanding opportunities for researchers to access AI tools, scientific data, computational infrastructure, and experimental facilities, as well as reforming the organization of research funding and institutions. It encourages the use of AI for knowledge analysis, modeling of physical and biological systems, and autonomous closed-loop research, supporting high-risk, high-potential research. The declaration proposes methods such as long-term funding, rapid grants, prizes, and challenges while reducing unnecessary administrative burdens on researchers.
